Person with elaborate horror-themed face makeup resembling an edgy drag queen, with dark hair, piercings, and a black circle sticker with a logo in their mouth.

My name is Spencer, also known as The Red Silence,” and I began my creative journey through makeup in 2020—drawn to transformation, character-building, and the beauty of the unconventional. In 2023, I entered the world of drag, where my love of alternative and horror aesthetics found a powerful stage. It didn’t take long for special effects makeup to become the heart of my artistry, inspired by the creatures and transformations I grew up admiring in film and television—and brought to life through bold, performance-driven storytelling.

Over time, I began blending prosthetics, costuming, and SFX techniques into my drag work, earning recognition through numerous drag competition wins, performances on large festival stages, and the creation of self-produced and hosted shows. When I chose to pursue SFX more seriously, I expanded beyond drag—creating prosthetics and costume pieces for fellow artists before joining the team at Deadmonton Haunted House, where I further developed my craft and discovered a deeper passion for professional effects work.

At Deadmonton, I connected with Cate and Rae, who have continued to guide and mentor me as an emerging artist. Through ongoing training and hands-on experience, I am rapidly expanding my technical skillset—developing precision in application, a stronger understanding of colour theory, and new capabilities such as airbrushing and prosthetic work.

My approach to makeup is rooted in connection, curiosity, and respect. I love learning people’s stories and I believe every client brings more than a face to paint—they bring lived experience, individuality, and identity, all of which deserve to be seen and honoured. As a neurodivergent, queer Bosnian artist, I brings a unique perspective to my work and I take pride in creating spaces where others feel safe, celebrated, and empowered.

I am currently working towards becoming a full-time makeup artist and drag performer within the local industry, with a long-term goal of travelling for creative work—continuing to grow, push boundaries, and bring striking transformations to life.
